Professor Hermann and doctor Erica Sailer have helped thousands of children with maxillofacial diseases

Dr. Erica Sailer and Prof. Hermann Sailer

Since 2001 Prof. Sailer has been running his own private clinic "Klinik Professor Sailer" in Zurich. During this time, he continued the development of the surgical method for the cure of "obstructive sleep apnea". In the meantime, this surgery is a routine intervention at Professor Sailer's clinic and not only heals the sleep apnea, but also prevents health consequences such as heart attack, stroke, type 2 diabetes, dementia, etc. He is one of the world’s most experienced experts in the field of maxillofacial surgery, successfully performing thousands of complicated operations in over thirty years at Zurich University Hospital and at his own clinic. In addition, other methods of surgery for other diseases have also been developed.

His wife, Dr. Erica Sailer, is co-founder of the Sailer Clinic and carries the Facial planning and Aesthetic consultations. She has a diverse experience in learning leadership, project management, training development, and delivery of professional development and technical training. She consistently produces quality results aligned to client business objectives. “I understand the importance of adult learner-focused facilitation in a demanding, ever-changing business environment”, she states.

She obtained the Certified ScrumMaster and Certified Scrum Product Owner certifications in 2018 to better support the learning projects she manages that are run using the Agile framework. She is Six Sigma trained, always looks for process efficiencies, and shares best practices. Doctor Erica is quick to navigate the change curve and strive to improve the learner experience in all she does.

Both doctor Hermann and doctor Erica have helped thousands of children with maxillofacial diseases. They founded the Cleft-Children International (CCI) Foundation in 2000, that manages centres where children with cleft lip and palate are operated free of charge. The primary focus of this assistance is in India, where there are cleft-centres (so-called Partner Clinics) run in Mangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai (Madras), Mumbai (Bombay) and Chenganoor (Kerala). Besides, there is also a cleft-centre in Romania. The concept of these centres encompasses not only the performance of surgeries, but also scientific studies, e.g. reports on symphyseal mandibular cleft, reconstruction of nasal clefts, the prevalence of CLP in India or the vascular anatomy in cleft lips. A school for cleft-children was founded in Hyderabad in the year 2009.

Two support organisations were founded in Germany in the years 2005 and 2008 to support the activities of the CCI: the Cleft-Children-Aid, Professor Hermann-Sailer Foundation in Hannover and the Cleft-Children-Assistance, Professor Hermann-Sailer Foundation in Bielefeld.
