Award-winners
Paris hosted last night Wednesday, December 4, the European Awards in Medicine 2019, an event in which a total of 25 doctors, surgeons, consultants and health professionals from all over Europe, gathered in the city of light to share ideas, thoughts and projects.
The framework chosen for the celebration was the iconic and emblematic Ritz hotel in Paris. Its history and location within the city, gives the space a special charm that makes it the perfect choice for the occasion. The popular building was the favorite of distinguished personalities such as Charlie Chaplin, Coco Chanel, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor and, of course, Ernest Heminway. But the luxurious hotel keeps hundreds of curiosities that make it even more special.
The hotel has a prestigious culinary school: the École Ritz Escoffier, founded in 1988 in honor of Auguste Escoffier, the first chef of the Ritz. Studies include French haute cuisine, pastry training, and extensive training with the Master in French Gastronomy, individual classes, such as a four-hour macaron course or a class devoted entirely to lobster.
The impressive halls and the famous galleries of the Ritz Paris, received the winners in a cold Parisian night, in a gala organized by El Suplemento to recognize the work, effort and good work of medical professionals throughout Europe.
The welcome cocktail began at 6:30 p.m. and was held in one of the halls adjacent to the Grand Jardin, 1,600 square meters turned into a green oasis, which was designed following the purest French tradition, with a fountain, sculpted hedges, white flowers and magnolias. One of the most romantic and timeless scenarios of the capital.
After the cocktail and photocall, winners and companions went to the Vendôme room, where the awards ceremony took place. The act, developed entirely in English, was conducted by the journalist and presenter Sonia Fernández and inaugurated by the magnificent voice of the soprano Vanessa Cera.
The director of El Supplemento, Antonio Queijeiro, said in his opening speech that “all the award-winners have something in common, which is their constant dedication. A dedication that entails the sacrifice of leisure and family time”. In addition, he recalled that "health is the most precious asset of the human being and is in the hands of all the award-winners here this evening". Before finishing his speech, he thanked the entire El Supplemento team for the work and effort placed in the development of the gala.
The master of ceremonies began the act highlighting the efforts of doctors, surgeons, clinics, hospitals and health professionals who “work daily to preserve our health and obtain, if not immortality, the eradication of diseases more dangerous for the human being”.
The 25 winners in this First Edition of the European Awards in Medicine in the different categories have been: Dr. Rafael Llorens León (Cardiovascular Surgery), Dr. César Pablo Ramírez Plaza (General and Digestive Surgery), Ariel Simony (Psychology), David Redfern (Orthopedic Surgery), Dr. Pedro Torrecillas Cabrera and Dr. Franco Lugnani (Oncology), Dr. Victoria Delgado Díaz (Proctology), Dr. José María Gómez-Reino Sanchís (Geriatrics), Dr. Blas García García (Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery), Dr. Gaetano Cupo (Ophthalmology), Dr. Alberto García Valdés (Endocrinology), Dr. Maria Papadopoulou (Gynecology), Dr. Gerardo Coma González (Allergology), Prof. Dr. Mariano Valdés Chávarri (Cardiology), Dr. Serkan Aygin (Hair Transplant Surgery), Dr. Pablo Rosado Rodríguez (Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery), AA Clinic (Aesthetic Medicine), Dr. Manuel Ruibal Moldes (Urology), Prof. Dr. Eric Van Cutsem (Oncological Research), Dr Juan Antonio Abasca l Ruiz (Preventive Medicine), Calda Clinic (Rehabilitation), Dr. Francisco J. The awards ceremony began after 8:00 pm, with a common element in the thanking speeches. All the doctors referred to a team work and dedicated the award to their patients. “It is a great honor and an especially significant privilege for the operated patients who placed their trust and faith in me,” commented Dr. Rafael Llorens, who inaugurated the awards ceremony.
The touch of glamour to the ceremony was put by the Valencian stylist Tomás Salcedo, of the firm Thommy Estilistas, who was in charge of the styling of the entire staff of El Suplemento, including the impeccable look of the presenter Sonia Fernández.
The closing show was set by the lyric group Opera Show, which surprised attendees with a flashmob that began after desserts. They performed several themes, including the famous Funiculì, funiculà, a Neapolitan song composed by Luigi Denza; and a version of the popular song Bésame Mucho by Cesária Évora.
