Dr. David Abejón González
Dr. David Abejón González is since 2010, head of department of the Pain Unit of the Quirón Salud Madrid University Hospital, the Ruber Juan Bravo Hospital Complex and the Quirón Salud San José Hospital.
Within his specialty, Dr. Abejón is an expert in the interventional treatment of chronic pain and radiofrequency techniques (sensory and pulsed), neurostimulation, epiduroscopy, nerve and epidural blocks, trigeminal neuralgia, acupuncture and ozone therapy.
Dr. Abejón González graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Alcalá de Henares in 1994 and completed his residency in Anesthesiology, Resuscitation and Pain Therapy at the Puerta del Hierro Hospital in Madrid, where years later he would become the Coordinator of the Pain Unit of that center, exercising his work for 10 years.
Her doctoral thesis from the Autonomous University of Madrid “Study of electrical parameters in rechargeable and non-rechargeable spinal stimulation systems in the clinical field “was cum laude and was nominated for the UAM Extraordinary Award 2012.
He has an extensive curriculum after having worked in several centers: for seven years he was Director of the Pain Unit of the FREMAP Hospital in Majadahonda and another eight years serving as coordinatorof the Pain Unit at the Puerta de Hierro University Hospital. For thirteen years he was in the Pain Clinic of Madrid and was part of the Pain Unit at the Alcorcón Hospital Foundation, in the area of anesthesia, resuscitation and critical care for four years (2001-2005). In addition, Dr. Abejón was Director of the Pain Unit at MD Anderson in Madrid for 6 years.
He has been president of the Spanish Society of Neuromodulation, is Felloship Interventional Pain Practice (FIPP) of the World Institute of Pain and founding member of the Madrid Society of Pain. He is currently vice president of the Spanish multidisciplinary society of pain (SEMDOR).
Dr. Abejón belongs to the Editorial Committee of the Journal of the Spanish Society of Pain, as well as the Journal of the Society of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation, as well as being part of the editorial board of pain practice, Pain Medicine,and Pain Physician. He also actively participates in different research projects, communications and presentations, having participated and published numerous articles in specialized journals and books. Internationally he has published among others "How to Restart the Interventional Activity in the COVID-19 ERA: The Experience of a Private Unit in Spain","Emergence Fromthe COVID-19 Pandemic and the Care of Chronic Pain: Guidance for the Interventionalist", "A SystematicLiterature Revieuw of Peripheral Nerve Stimulation Therapies for the Treatment of Pain " and at national level, "Interventional techniques: Pulsed radiofrequency of the dorsal ganglion of the lumbar roots", "Neuropathic Pain. Principles of Medical and Interventional Treatment" or "New Indications and Updates in Neurostimulation” among many others.
From the teaching point of view, Dr. Abejón is Director of international training courses taught by Abbott and national and international professor of neuromodulation courses taught for Boston Scientific. In addition, he is a professor of the "Master on Pathophysiology and Pain Treatment" at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the "Master on Pain in Clinical Practice and the Basic and Clinical Aspect of Pain" at the Rey Juan Carlos I University and the "Master on Pain Treatment" at the University of Seville.
And he is a professor at the European University of Madrid.
He was considered one of the best Spanish doctors by Forbes magazine during 2018 and 2019 and was named full member of the Ramón y Cajal Academy of Health Science.
During 2019 he was awarded the Gold Medal for Work, Health Excellence 2019 and Doctor of the year 2019 in Pain Treatment.
