Dr Ignasi Català

Doctor Ignasi Català is a physician and surgeon specialized in neurosurgery. He received his training in this specialty at the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau in Catalonia, Spain, between 2006 and 2011. Subsequently, he worked as a physician in the Neurosurgery department of the same hospital until 2014. At the same time, he specialized in spinal surgery at Instituto clavel, located in Barcelona and Madrid.

Dr Català also received training abroad, specializing in state-of-the-art surgical techniques during his stays at hospitals such as USF Hospital in San Francisco and Tampa General Hospital in Florida, in the United States and Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Bordeaux in France.

In Spain, he has spent over 12 years developing his skills at  Instituto Clavel, focusing on anterior lumbar and cervical surgeries for arthroplasty, as well as complex techniques for correcting scoliosis and spinal deformities. He also gained expertise in minimally invasive techniques such as lateral lumbar interbody fusion (XLIF). Additionally, he is an experienced surgeon in sacroiliac joint fusion using the IFUSE technique and robotic surgery. 

Since 2011, Dr. Català is the Medical Director of Instituto Clavel and a specialist in spinal surgery. He is also the Medical Director of the physiotherapy and spinal rehabilitation centre that is part of the Instituto Clavel. 

Dr. Català has created the first multidisciplinary private scoliosis unit in Spain treating adult complex  spine deformity. At the same time, he is actively involved in research and education, participating in various research projects and authoring multiple scientific articles in the field.

Apart from clinical work and research, he serves as a neurosurgeon and volunteer physician at the Clavel Foundation and the NED Foundation. In recent years, he has made several visits to Africa and Central America, contributing to the establishment of regional hospitals and departments of neurosurgery.
