Dr Antonio Mora del Río is a renowned figure in the fields of traumatology and sports medicine. His training began at the University of Barcelona, where he obtained a degree in Medicine and Surgery, and continued at the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona, FC Barcelona, and the School of Sports Medicine. He also specialised in Osteopathy in Montpellier and Paris. His experience was not limited to academia, as he was a professional athlete in basketball and martial arts, which gave him profound insight into the physical and psychological needs of athletes.
Dr Mora currently leads MTD, a global organisation specialising in sports medicine and traumatology. MTD offers services ranging from orthopaedic surgery to rehabilitation, with a preventive and comprehensive treatment approach. The essence of MTD lies in its close collaboration with medical and technical teams, enabling the design of personalised plans that address not only injury prevention and treatment but also the overall health of athletes. Its clients include elite and amateur athletes, as well as clubs and federations in sports such as football, basketball, tennis, and motorsport.
MTD has gained international attention, especially in countries such as the United States, France, and Italy. The outsourcing of its services has proven to be an efficient strategy for teams and federations, thanks to its innovative and cost-effective approach. At the same time, Dr Mora serves as the director of sports medicine and traumatology services at the Quironsalud Group, where he has promoted an integrative, holistic model of care that considers the physical, psychological, and social aspects of the patient.
Additionally, as the chief medical officer for Club Joventut Badalona and CE Sabadell, Dr Mora leads teams that provide care to athletes of all ages and levels, including those with disabilities. In 2024, his team joined the Dr Valle Folgueral Institute of Complex Spine Pathology in León, a leading centre for technology and healthcare excellence, to collaborate on surgical preparation and postoperative recovery for patients.
Dr Mora and MTD are in the midst of expansion, aiming to bring their innovative approach to healthcare to the international stage.
