A lawyer with 20 years of career and an expert in Medical Law, helping patients to fight for their rights.
David O'Malley, Joint Managing Partner at Callan Tansey Solicitors
David O’Malley obtained his Bachelor of Civil Law from the National University of Ireland in Galway, in 2004. He later completed his academic formation by studying a Master’s in European and Comparative Law from the University of Limerick in 2005. His knowledge in legal matters served him to be both tutor and lecturer at the Law Faculty of the National University of Ireland in Galway, positions he maintained while training as a lawyer in Callan Tansey Solicitors. His labour at this firm served him to become one of their solicitors soon after receiving his final qualifications, starting a career in which he would become interested in the field of Medical Law and that led him to become Joint Managing Partner in 2022.
As a lawyer, David O’Malley has worked in numerous cases related to complex medical negligence in Ireland. He stands as a defendant of the rights of those who have suffered from this type of negligence, thus helping them to achieve both legal and economic compensation. These cases have been related to both physical and psychological damage, including a huge amount of areas. Some of these are related to fatal injuries, accident and emergency negligence, neurological problems, surgical negligence or misdiagnosis and delayed diagnosis. He is also skilled in torts, dispute resolution, legal writing, civil litigation and corporate law. As David O’Malley defends, he works tirelessly for his clients who remain centre of all his endeavour.
Along his career, David O’Malley has been involved in some of the largest cases in the recent history of Ireland, always standing for those who have suffered from a bad praxis in the medical field. He has also represented numerous families at inquests, helping them legally and supporting them in those difficult moments. He also is a recurrent lecturer at the Law Society of Ireland, among other organisations. His labour through the years has led him to obtain membership of the Sligo Bar Association, the Medical Injuries Alliance and the Action Against Medical Accidents (AVMA).
In the last year, David O’Malley has sustained an active role in the demands to the Irish government in regulating the periodic payments to catastrophically injured people. He claims for the urgent need to introduce new laws to facilitate payments to those who have suffered from negligence, and to reduce the legal and administrative procedures they have to undergo, which require the performance of further medical examinations and reports, extending their suffering.
