Barthélemy Cousin is a partner in charge of the Insurance Recovery and Counseling department at the K&L Gates Paris office. He has been assisting and advising numerous French and foreign companies in the insurance and reinsurance coverage litigation sector for over 25 years. As a partner, he has always worked in large international firms.
For 15 years now, he has resolutely chosen to position himself in the defense of the interests of policyholders against insurers or in the defense of the interests of reinsurers against insurers. After having successfully completed numerous cases in terms of financial lines, construction and business interruption coverage, he is now in charge of several cases involving the mobilization of civil liability coverage for French policyholders in connection with claims made in the US and putative class actions arising out of completed operations.
Barthélemy Cousin has always paid particular attention to teamwork, as shown, among other things, by the longevity of his collaboration with counsel Thibaut Gribelin and associate Bertille Rusé, with whom he has been working since 2013 and 2018 respectively.
More specifically, Thibaut Gribelin’s practice focuses on managing and defending claims on behalf of policyholders. He has developed a strong experience in claim management and optimization of communications with insurers until coverage is granted. From the outset of a loss, he assists his clients with insurance policy analysis, team coordination, appointment of technical experts or loss adjusters, and negotiations on coverage. Furthermore, during the course of his career, he has built a strong understanding of the banking industry.
As for Bertille Rusé, she deals with complex commercial litigation cases, often with international or multijurisdictional aspects. She has extensive experience in the field of industrial risks and assists clients in the management of proceedings resulting from major industrial catastrophes.
Moreover, the team, which also comprises associates Yesne Ozek and Joséphine Brenet, regularly works on insurance recovery matters in collaboration with managing partner Louis Degos and associate Claire Morat-Levrin.
