Deborah Casale

In the competitive and often unforgiving world of employment law, Deborah Casale has established herself as one of the most respected and sought-after lawyers in the field. A partner in the employment team at Irwin Mitchell LLP in its London office, Casale specialises in representing senior executives and directors, particularly in the financial services sector, across both contentious and non-contentious matters. In addition to her work in employment law, Casale is also the Regional Lead Partner for Irwin Mitchell’s London office and works across teams to deliver excellent client service as part of a full service law firm.

Casale trained at Clyde & Co and went on to become a partner at Gannons and thenSlater and Gordon—where she led the employment team before joining Irwin Mitchell in 2021. Casale has demonstrated exceptional skills in handling complex cases with sensitivity, pragmatism, and determination. Her expertise covers unfair dismissal, discrimination claims—including those based on sex, maternity, disability, age, and race—workplace harassment, bonus disputes, and high-value settlement agreements. 

Casale is known for her strategic and client-centred approach. “My goal is to resolve disputes pragmatically, achieving outcomes that allow clients to move on with their lives,” she says. However, when necessary, she is a tenacious litigator, as evidenced by her prominent role in Green v SIG Trading Limited before the Court of Appeal, and in Royal Surrey County NHS Foundation Trust v Drzymala, which upheld a finding of unfair dismissal in the Employment Appeal Tribunal. 

Casale is a regular speaker at the Employment Lawyers Association (ELA), where she has addressed cutting-edge topics such as hybrid working and future claims in settlement agreements.Her reputation extends far beyond the UK and she has also spoken at international American Bar Association (“ABA”) Labor and Employment law conferences, including panels on whistleblowing and managing redundancies.

A law graduate from the University of East Anglia and a Legal Practice Course graduate from the College of Law in Guildford, Casale not only advises clients but also contributes to the development of employment law through expert publications and commentary includingThe Guardian and The Telegraph.
